Hi everyone! This is the official post kicking off my 2012 Design-a-thon. This is the FAQ as well as the main page to get links to everything related to this event. What is this thing? I’m challenging myself to design and develop a new machine embroidery pattern every week for the rest of 2012 — which works out to 26 patterns.

What are you doing?

I’m going to design a new machine embroidery pattern every week for the rest of the year. I will release each design on the last day of that week. Each weekly package I create will include not only the final machine embroidery pattern, but also an outline version, if appropriate, and the initial work upon which I created the embroidery pattern to begin with, when possible.

Why are you doing this?

Why not? I mean, as a person doing whatever it is you do, haven’t you ever set a challenge for yourself to accomplish some sort of goal? Did you reach it? I find that I’m more likely to if I have some accountability outside of myself…hence the big deal I’m making about it on my blog. I’m doing it publicly so hopefully you will hold me to doing it. If you don’t need this kind of help, kudos, now share your secret!

Just look at the ‘finished designs’ list below. As they are completed for the corresponding week, I’ll update the list with links on where to get them.

Are they free?

Creating art in a variety of forms is not just a hobby for me, it’s also my day job. I’m sure you wouldn’t expect McDonald’s to just hand out a complete combo meal to everyone who stopped by or drove up to the window, would you? By the same token, I can’t really give away these designs to every person who visits my site. However, I do have a resources section on this site which does offer freebies.
